Meet Sonia,

the green thumb, and owner behind The Gerbera Connection.

Welcome to my story, where the charm of these vibrant blooms has inspired me to help fellow gardeners access unique gerbera plants.

Journey

My fascination with the natural world has been a lifelong affair. I started my journey helping my grandmothers tend to their gardens and gerberas over 35 years ago. Whilst my love for plants was put on the back burner to head to University, my passion for them never faded. My University years allowed me to gain a strong foundation with a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Occupational Therapy Studies. Exploring the wonders of life from a scientific perspective was captivating and gave me the skills to understand how science and nature really do go hand in hand. After having a family and spending many years working in healthcare, I felt my true calling emerged when I ventured back into gardening. 

Passion

As I delved into horticulture, gerbera plants became the focal point of my passion. I’ve seen the transformation that Australian gerberas can bring to any garden. Their vibrant colours and incredible size add a touch of elegance to any outdoor space. However, I’ve also witnessed the frustration of fellow gardeners who struggle to source these plants, often finding it challenging to access the varieties they desire.

In the realm of gardening and my beloved gerbera plants, I found solace and a profound connection to nature. It’s a place where science becomes a part of everyday life, and where the joy of tending to gerberas is an art in itself.

What I Do Today

Fast forward to today, and you will usually find me juggling the hats of a flower farmer and a mum to three busy kiddos. When I'm not elbow-deep in soil, coaxing the Gerberas to reach their full potential, you'll find me orchestrating the beautiful chaos that comes with a loving husband and a trio of energetic children.
