Semi-double or duplex gerberas have two rows of petals; an outer and an inner layer. The inner layer of the flower is usually shorter, and the center part of the disc is partly visible. This type looks fuller and more layered than the single gerbera but not too dense.
They are popular because they look more decorative while still keeping a natural shape.
